Monitoring Impact

Your investment agreement sets out what you committed to measure and report. Meeting those obligations is both a legal requirement and the foundation of a strong investor relationship.

Impact monitoring

Building a practical impact monitoring system

A practical impact monitoring system doesn't need to be complex. It needs to be consistent. At a minimum, you should be able to answer three questions at any point during the investment period:

01

What indicators are we tracking, and how are we collecting that data?

02

Are we on track against the projections we shared with our investor?

03

What do we do if we fall short, and who do we tell?

If you don't yet have systems in place to answer these questions, build them before your first reporting deadline, not after.
Reporting baseline

Your projections are now your baseline

The impact projections you shared with your investor in Stage 3 are now your reporting baseline. If your actuals are tracking significantly differently from those projections, address it early and document your reasoning.

Proactive communication when results diverge, before they become a formal concern, protects the relationship and gives you more options. Investors generally respond better to early transparency than to surprises at reporting time.
