Stage 06 · After investment

Monitoring Financial Performance

Once investment is in place, your financial reporting obligations are no longer just internal. Your investor will expect regular updates, and your deal documents will specify what, how often, and in what format.

Investor expectations

What most investors will expect to see

At a minimum, most investors will expect to see:

Profit and loss statements against your projected figures

Cash flow position and runway

Any material changes to your revenue assumptions or cost structure

Early warning of anything that could affect your ability to meet repayment or covenant obligations

Don't wait for a formal reporting date to flag a problem. Proactive communication when things shift, before they become critical, protects the relationship and gives you more options.
Reporting baseline

Your projections are now your baseline

The financial projections you shared with your investor in Stage 3 are now your reporting baseline. Revisit the Financial Projections Guide for a reminder of how your assumptions were structured.

If your actuals are tracking significantly differently from those projections, address it early and document your reasoning. Investors generally respond better to early transparency than to surprises at reporting time.
